Prayer Flag & A Tale of Longing

Handwritten invocations to a distressed planet in the form of prayers to the elements of Earth, Air, Fire, Water and Aether, are based upon the format of traditional Tibetan prayer flags. The printed prayers alternate with a lotus image stamped on handmade Nepalese paper, and on the verso, ink-printed icons representing the 5 elements are interspersed with handmade paper pulp-paintings. The flag is sewn on a length of double-sided gold satin ribbon and can be read like a book, or suspended at a length of 12-15 feet.

Each folded flag comes in a be-ribboned white cotton pouch. The companion book, A Tale of Longing, is a spiral-bound journal with hand-painted and foil-stamped covers. The story, also written in cursive, and printed letterpress from photopolymer plates, recalls a visit to a monk printing prayer flags from carved wooden blocks at Rumtek Monastery in Sikkim, India.

Every page of the Tale is hand-embellished with watercolor.

These two books are placed within a polished acrylic sleeve, 12 x 12.50 x 1.25"

Edition is limited to twenty copies
